Street artist-run exhibitions are taking over Adelaide and never have they looked so slick, cheeky, sexy and ultra-contemporary. Everything from kaleidoscopic posca pen murals to hand painted teacups. You’ll never know what to expect but, isn’t that the point? Why waste time looking at the same thing again and again?

On Friday February 10th, three floors of the mysterious, refurbished Raj House will be transformed into a smoking hot climate change exhibition as part of the 2017 Adelaide Fringe. Whether you’re a climate skeptic or an Earth lover, curator and mastermind Azzurro, invites you all to explore an immersive reflection of the ongoing and divisive Australian climate change debate.

The night kicks off at 6pm with guests, Robert Simms, Rene Campbell and Azzurro himself, set to speak. As you wander through Raj House, checking out the amazing murals, live performances will be there to entertain.

Robert Simms is a former senator who speaks prolifically on the desperate need for parliament to step up to the challenge of climate change. Rene Campbell is a talented illustrator-turned-marine research ecologist with a passion for sea life. AZZURRO will speak on his experiences at Green Island and Norman Reef in the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest and the power of art as motivator for social and political change in the social age.

To make the night even better the exhibition’s heavily awarded wine sponsor ArtWine will provide the bevvies. They believe “wine and art are neither elite or mysterious. They are both there for our enjoyment and the happy moments in our lives”. Would you agree? We would.

Azzurro topped off 2016 with around 40 murals throughout Adelaide for clients like Westfield, Central Market Arcade, Adelaide Casino, Headspace and The Oxford Hotel. He’ll be joined by mural artists Jade Mars, Roarkij, Lewis Dalby and Steven Papas as well as other artists talented in watercolours, street art, installation art and so much more.

Before the show had even been announced, four other mural artists turned up and have already been busy painting up secret large scale mural pieces in Raj House, working on 12 murals across two weeks and counting.

Other artists

Watercolour artist Kirstie McGregor, street artist Tyler Mario, ink-worker Cathy Gray, installation artists Jane Skeer and Ashley Hart, tattoo artist QUI, sculpture artist Mirjana Dobson, tea-cup painter Sydonie Georgia from The Quirky Cup Collective, textile designer Studio.Polly, writers Najib Melky and Katie Spain, freestyle lyricist Niques Kay, poet Satori and a line-up of Adelaide visual artists Wynne Elise, Sam Brooks, Anthony Adams, Recluse, Felicity Wrangles, BÜTIQUE, Nicky Create, Aaron Finck, Olivia Sadry, Mimby Jones Robinson, Rosie Daws, Joseph Hannan and Danny Jarratt.

“We have just been hanging out, pumping some music and getting into our zones and we are growing ideas together, resulting in a huge collaboration mural” says Azzuro.

“It’s become somewhat of an art academy here, I get to teach the artists some things they can’t teach in art school and they are sharing tips with each other and teaching me things about paint I wouldn’t have even imagined.”

“We are not the left nor the right; these are un-jaded switched on, talented young people discussing big problems through imagery and creation with established artists around to guide and guest speaking experts to weigh in- your job is to make sense of it all.”

We’re not asking for money for any charity, we want to inform, educate and inspire our audience and ignite some passion, sending you home with something to think about.

All pieces of It’s Getting Hot In Here are painted straight on the wall but there will be loads of awesome framed pieces for sale on the night.

Raj House is located at 54 Hyde Street, Adelaide. Don’t miss this event on Friday 10 February. Gold coin donation.
